The idea for making our biodegradable urns was started back in 1996/97 among a group of people from the death care industry, as they wanted a biodegradable alternative to all the urns made in metal and ceramic. It was agreed to start the research and experiments to find a non toxic and fast degradable burial urn.
In 1999 the development had come so far that an urn was ready to be tested by the Danish Institute of Technology and after testing it the approval to start the production was given.
The distribution of the urns in Scandinavian, Germany, the Nederland’s and Canada was then started and during this time the production was move in 2006 to new production facilities in Randers, where also the company name was changed from Hydria to Danish Biofiber.
After moving into the new factory move development was done to at move plant fibers this was done in cooperation with AgroTech which is an authorised technological service institute offering consultancy and provides technological services within agriculture and food, and great knowhow regarding complex biological tasks within the entire value chain from primary production to final consumption.
